Techsol Medallion CPU Modules

Introduction to Techsol's Medallion CPU Modules

Techsol is a world leader in Linux on ARM technology.
Leverage our off-the-shelf Medallion Computer Modules and development kits to accelerate your development projects. Whether you just need a Computer-on-Module for your own semi-custom design, or you need a turn-key solution, Techsol's focused Hardware and Software expertise plus superb support get you to market faster.
And our highly-integrated solutions provide the greatest value to maintain your competitive cost-advantage into production.

The CPU module connects to the I/O board through a pair of 120-contact connectors. These are mounted on either side of the module and require substantial force to loosen. This provides more reliable physical support for the CPU module than with competing schemes using a single connector (typically an SO-DIMM memory connector).

In addition, Techsol's Medallion CPU modules have many more signals available, including a full 32-bit wide bus with 64 MB of address-space per chip-select, giving greater expansion capability along with more built-in features, making them the best buy of Computer-On-Module devices. Even so, they are also the smallest of any devices that feature a full expansion bus!

You can design the I/O board or we can (see the "Services" tab above). We can also provide cost-effective production for you.

ARM-9 Medallion CPU Modules

Techsol makes a collection of very advanced CPU modules, packing more features into a smaller space. The newer ones are based on ARM-920T core processors.

SA2410 Medallion CPU Module

SA2410C-640 ARM-920T Processor with Linux and Java at 266 MHz for real-time performance This Module is powered by a Samsung S3C2410A(L) processor, featuring an ARM-920T core with MMU and cache memories. Note that the cache is larger on this processor than on most other ARM-9 chips with a 922T or 926T core. The LCD controller will drive STN and CSTN displays with 4 or 8 data lines, plus TFT displays with up to 6 bits for each of Red, Green, and Blue data. Plus there are extra timing signals for today's advanced TFT and LTPS displays. But it also still has all the serial ports, IrDA, SPI, I2C, key-scan, and 32-bit bus of the other Medallions!

SA2410 Medallion CPU Module Features

  • Processor speed is variable from 12 to 200 or 266 MHz
  • Power: Single 3.3-volt supply in; on-board 1.8-volt supply; on-board reset controller
  • Serial ports: 1 UART with Modem control lines; 1 UART with RX/TX; 1 IrDA; 1 I2C (in HW); 1 SPI

SA2410 Medallion CPU Module Applications

This module is useful in a wide range of applications due to its:

  • High Speed (32-bit RISC CPU at 200 or 266 MHz)
  • Low Power (1.8-volt core with myriad power-saving options)
  • Large Storage Capabilities (up to 1 GB of storage on the module)
  • Low Cost (Ultra-high Value Proposition!)

Customers of this module have deployed them in:

  • Aftermarket Automotive Products
  • Card Payment Terminals
  • Telematics
  • Industrial Controls
  • Hand-held Inventory Computers
  • Factory Automation and Monitoring
  • Building Controls and Monitoring
  • Gas-well Monitoring and Telemetry
  • Medication Dispensing Systems

But the SA2410 is adaptable to so many tasks, we can't list them all here!

The Next Medallion CPU Module

This Module is similar to the SA2410 CPU Module, with 3 exceptions:

  1. It's faster
  2. It has even lower power consumption
  3. The 3rd one is a secret!

Watch for this one in 2008, after we've developed and verified all the drivers, and select customers have given it a good shake-down in the field!

ARM-7 Medallion CPU Modules

Techsol makes a collection of very advanced CPU modules, packing more features into a smaller space. The first ones were based on ARM-720T core processors.
